CEO stop struggling, start transforming

Business is changing, more and more computers are replacing humans at work, it is quicker in countries like France where heavier taxes and contributions weigh on salaries. This is a silent move which pushes people to part time jobs or disoccupation. The only spared workers are the high skilled one able to deal with technologies and business organisation1. Countries where consumption is a growth engine, are suffering as purchasing power is stalling or decreasing. Those turned toward exportation fare much better. But competition is hardening in a deflationary context.

CEO are struggling to maintain or reach an operating income level which is today less and less compatible with investors requiring more and more return on capital. They are also fighting for Revenue as customers are affected themselves by business environment changes. Crisis is a good scapegoat, it explains disoccupation and companies troubles. But now it is over and hangover is still there.

To hope to survive, companies need to transform themselves.  Even so, not all will be able to proceed, only those which will get capital to finance the change and only those which will succeed into executing the change. Not much time will be left to start.

All of this would be new, unless consulting and editing companies have not rapped out Transformation for years.

What should be transformational directions ?

Race against the Machine – Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee

Is America really running a race against the Machine ? Even if in August unemployment slipped to 7.3 %, its lowest level for five years, it is due mainly to people giving up to search a job. In the same time the part of American worker hits as well  its lowest point for years. In their book, Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee explained that the trend has started many years before as it is shown in the picture below (more…)

No disruptive innovation without great productivity growth

By now, word Innovation flourishes often on political and managers lips as many entrepreneurs dream to transform an idea in gold. This is the modern rush. Looking at carefully, allows to discover soon that the race is likely to have few winners against many loosers. If United States seems to come close to win, among loosers lay old Europe. Are old fashioned countries showing so much resistance to change that it will anihilate all innovation benefits ?

To show what is happening, let’s consider a simple economy of four producer groups :

  1. Food producers to feed all people
  2. Clothes, equipment and leisure producers to give all support to make production and cater people for
  3. Government services and army producer for all state administration services and army
  4. Property and liabilities which produce nothing but are owners or charge for others

Let’s suppose that this order is matching the order of needs and all production cater everybody for what he needs.

There no money, this is a barter economy everybody gets his goods exchanging his own production for all his needs.

At this this moment, economy is at equilibrium.

All the the game will be to try to shock this model with  population growth DP

Digitizing companies is industrializing France

Diapositive1There are many talks about re-industrialization of France discussing on industrial production and services, as there is great hope based on multiplication of plants expected to increase employment and thereby, providing an answer to the question of unemployment. However, it has long been known that industrial production and services are atoms of the same molecule, they are inseparable. Could you imagine one second a car without credit services without updated board computer, without pre-sales services, sales, after-sales services?

Clients show primarily interested in the uses they are doing of products, or those that accrue to their own customers, uses, agreeing in the broadest sense, include aspects emotional and aesthetic benefits. For example, energy companies through the acquisition of a nuclear plant are primarily concerned with the best combination of products and services that will ensure continuous production of energy, as well, airlines do not size up technology aircraft, but the combination of products and services that offers the most hours of flight. All whish suppliers basing their commitments on that. It is the ignorance of this logic that led to the failure of Concorde tough it was a technological feat.
